About Me
I believe that everyone was born with the ability to learn, but that ability has to be unlocked with good teaching and the right opportunities. I am encouraging and silly, but have high expectations for my students. I will work *so* hard for "my kids" but in return, expect that my kids will also work hard for me. I think chocolate can solve a LOT of problems, I bleed garnet & gold (go Seminoles!!), dogs are WAY better than cats, and a hot dog is a taco, not a sandwich. Can't wait to meet you! To infinity and beyond, Mrs. Wood
Education
I earned both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Emotional Disturbances & Learning Disabilities from Florida State University in 2009. I went back for a second master's, this time a Master of Arts in Education, from Michigan State University and graduated in 2018. I earned a certificate in Online Teaching & Learning as well as Secondary Math & Science.
Teaching Experience
I was a teacher for 12 years. I taught special education in a self-contained classroom for 4 years right out of college. I taught high school math at a college preparatory school for the following 3 years. I took a year off, then taught 6th-12th grade math and supported the ESE department for the next 5 years at my district's Virtual School. I even did a few months in second grade during my last year at the virtual school. I have tutored students on the side throughout my career for additional income.
Interests
When I'm not working, I enjoy being in or near water, volunteering, learning a new skill, or baking. I really enjoy creating new things and spending time with my kids, husband, mom, and sister.
I love teaching and explaining science at every level!
